DJ Del Sol on the mic at a Maui wedding

Meet DJ Del Sol — Maui Wedding DJ & MC

Aloha! I’m Felipe Delgado, AKA DJ Del Sol — but please, call me Del

I’ve been DJing for over 30 years, and for the last 15, I’ve poured that experience into Maui weddings — mixing energy, elegance, and a little bit of comedy when it counts. From black-tie to full-tilt party, I read the room, ride the vibe, and keep the night moving. This is my story.

Early Start in Music

I grew up in Long Beach, California, where music became part of my life at an early age. By the time I was seven, I was the one switching records at family gatherings — already acting like the DJ in the room. That was my first glimpse of how music could shape energy, mood, and connection.

Mexican Weddings, Quinceañeras, and Raves

In high school, I tagged along with a friend’s mobile DJ company, working weddings and quinceañeras in the Mexican community. Those events taught me a lot — from how to keep multiple generations happy on the same dance floor, to the cultural traditions that make Latin celebrations so special. At the same time, I was diving into California’s rave scene — giving me a rare combination of experience in both family-centered events and high-energy underground parties.

Military Service and Global DJing

After graduation, I joined the Marine Corps, which stationed me in Hawaiʻi. There I earned the nickname “Del” — short for Delgado — and when I returned to DJing, my first stage name was DJ Del. My military service gave me the opportunity to travel abroad and DJ in many different countries. Along the way, I fell in love with countless cultures and discovered how music is a universal connector, no matter the language or tradition.

The Birth of DJ Del Sol

Back then, I was simply known as “DJ Del.” One night, while listening to Rage Against the Machine sing “this is for the people of the sun,” everything clicked. I was living in Maui, under the majestic volcano the ancient Hawaiians named Haleakalā — House of the Sun. At the time, I was a dedicated house music DJ, and in Spanish, del Sol means “of the sun.”

The name suddenly carried it all — my island home, my love for house music, and my Mexican roots. It was an aha moment where music, culture, and destiny aligned.

The Maui Club Scene

My journey took me from weddings and quinceañeras in California, to the rave scene on Oʻahu, and finally to Maui. On Maui, with no club scene at the time, I created my own — producing shows, bringing in DJs from the mainland, and learning the ins and outs of event production. When Lahaina’s only nightclub opened, I held down their flagship Saturday night for two years. During that time, I was voted Best Club DJ on Maui two years in a row and runner-up the third.

Entering the Wedding World

Then, about 15 years ago, a wedding planner approached me at the booth and said: “My couples want a DJ like you — club energy at a wedding. Will you do it?” At first I wasn’t sure, but when I stepped into the Maui wedding world, it clicked. I realized I could take my club and festival experience, my MC presence, and my event production skills, and channel them into unforgettable weddings. Around that time, I began to step away from nightlife and focus on weddings full-time.

Over 1,000 Maui Weddings Later

Since then, I’ve DJ’d over 1,000 weddings on Maui — from intimate 12-person ceremonies on the beach to multi-million-dollar celebrations at five-star resorts. Along the way, I’ve perfected my craft by adapting to whatever the day brings. I’ve DJ’d through literal hurricanes, set up on boats, and powered sound in the middle of the jungle with generators. No matter the setting, I keep the timeline flowing, the energy alive, and the couple stress-free.

Humor, Energy, and Aloha

I bring humor to every wedding — I’m quick-witted, and my dad-joke arsenal makes my daughter’s eyes roll. My MC style stays light and classy while keeping guests smiling. I’m also a U.S. Marine veteran, so staying calm under pressure and solving problems fast is second nature.

And above all, after more than 30 years living in Hawaiʻi, I’ve learned to love the aloha spirit and live it every day. That’s what I share with every couple and their guests — warmth, light, laughter, and unforgettable energy from “I do” to last dance.

FAQs

What kind of music do you play? +

I’m an open-format DJ, blending everything from Motown and disco to hip-hop, Latin, pop, and EDM. My background as a house and rave DJ keeps my mixes sharp, and I always build sets around your taste. Full disclosure: country isn’t my jam — sprinkled in is fine, but if you want a full night of country, I’d rather connect you with someone who lives that vibe. My goal is always to give you 100%.

Do you also MC the event? +

Yes! I’m both DJ and MC — which means I keep the flow going, make announcements in English and Spanish, and guide your guests with energy and class (never cheesy).

Can you provide sound for the ceremony too? +

Absolutely. I provide professional microphones for your officiant, vows, and readers, plus customized music for processional and recessional moments. Seamless ceremony sound is one of my specialties.

Do you travel to other islands or destinations? +

Yes, while most of my weddings are on Maui, I do travel across Hawaiʻi and occasionally beyond for destination weddings. If you’re considering flying me in, let’s chat details.

How do you keep the dance floor full? +

I read the crowd in real time — years of club and festival DJing taught me how to build energy and drop the right track at the right moment. That said, I never “guarantee” a packed dance floor, because not everyone is a dancer. Here’s the secret: guests mirror the couple’s energy, especially the bride’s. If you’re out there having fun, your guests will be too. I’ll bring the music, the transitions, and the energy — and together, we’ll create the party.

Can you handle special requests or cultural music? +

Definitely. I speak English and Spanish fluently, and I love weaving in cultural music — from Latin to Hawaiian to Filipino to Indian and more. I’ll learn pronunciation and key phrases so parents and elders feel included and respected.
